始建于1927年的日内瓦高级国际研究院（简称HEI），是世界上致力于国际关系研究的首批学校之一。该校规模不大，但对学生的挑选十分严格，约有600名研究生来自90多个国家。来自世界各地的师资素质、核心学科（经济学、历史、法律及政治学）的实力、对国际事务的政策研究以及英语与法语的双语教育（绝大多数课程均用英语授课）都奠定了该校的声誉。该校拥有象美国国会图书馆亨利·基辛格讲座教授相蓝欣这样具有重要国际影响的著名学者，还培养出了诸如联合国秘书长柯菲·安南这样世界知名的外交家，享有“外交家摇篮”的美誉。

日内瓦高级国际研究院开设了三类研究生课程：1。国际事务硕士（MIA）课程，为跨学科课程，主要为复杂世界提供必备的知识与分析、决策工具；2。国际问题研究硕士（MIS）课程，为学科课程，主要为在公共与私营部门从事与国际问题有关的职业者提供必不可少的专门知识；3。国际问题研究博士课程，旨在为想要在国际上从事学术研究及担任领导职位的学生提供高要求的课程。

就职于公共与私营部门的日内瓦高级国际研究院的各类毕业生在事业上都大获成功，尤其在国际组织、非政府组织、外交界、新闻界、银行界、咨询及其他领域里更是如此。按照国际标准来看，该校收费低廉（每年约4000美元）。日内瓦的生活成本较高（每人每月约1500美元），但该校向25％的学生提供的奖学金、就业机会以及在日内瓦可以找到的兼职工作可以弥补其中的差距。

About HEI

The Graduate Institute of International Studies, best known as HEI, was founded in 1927 as one of the first schools in the world dedicated to the study of international relations. A small and selective institution with about 600 graduate students from over 90 countries, HEI owes its reputation to the quality of its cosmopolitan faculty, the strength of its core disciplines (economics, history, law and political science), its policy-relevant approach to international affairs, and its bilingual English-French education (most classes are given in English). HEI also boasts of such internationally noted scholars as Prof. Lanxin Xiang, Henry Kissinger Professor at the Library of Congress and has produced such world-renowned diplomats as UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, hence always the reputation of “the cradle of diplomats”.

HEI offers three graduate courses of study: 1) a Master of international affairs (MIA), an interdisciplinary program that offers the necessary knowledge and tools for analysis and decision-making in a complex world; 2) a Master of international studies (MIS), a disciplinary program that provides the expertise essential to pursuing an international career in the public or private sector; 3) a Ph.D. in international studies, a demanding program for students aiming at an academic career or leading positions in the international world.

Graduates of all HEI programs have gone on to successful careers in the public and private sectors, notably in international organizations, NGOs, diplomacy, journalism, banking, consulting, and other fields. Tuition at HEI is low by international standards (approximately $4000 per annum). The relatively high cost of living in Geneva (approximately $1500 per month for a single individual) is offset by scholarship and employment opportunities at the Institute offered to approximately 25% of the students as well as by part-time employment available in Geneva.

HEI is located in a beautiful park on the shores of Lake Geneva, in immediate proximity to numerous international organizations, including the WTO, WHO, ILO, HCR and the European Headquarters of the UN, many NGO’s as well as many multinational firms. This location is ideally suited for conducting fundamental and applied research on contemporary issues and fostering policy debates between academics, diplomats and decision-makers.
