Founded in 2004, the Schoolof Advanced  International and Area Studies is a real advanced research institute specializing in the study of international relations and regional issues and undertaking the education of graduate students and doctoral candidates in the field of international relations. In November 2008, the school signed a cooperation agreement with the China National Development Bank in order to co-construct the CNDP-ECNU SAIAS(the Institute for SCO Studies as well), which is an important result of the long, close and strategic cooperation between the key financial institute and the “985” Project University. The school focuses on the study of Russia, the area of former Soviet Union and East European countries, the SCO, the European Union and European countries, East Asia, and relating great powers’ relations, international strategies, social transformation, energy and geo-politics, the theory of international relations and history of thought. There are two doctoral programs and three master’s programs including Scientific Communism and International Communist Movement, International Relations, Foreign Policies. Faculty includes altogether 26 teachers including 4 professors and 8 associate professors, 22 Ph. D candidates and 78 postgraduates.
